Item Bank and Reading List
WTS maintains an extensive bank of test questions based on each textbook. When a test order is placed, WTS will draw a subset of questions from the test bank. In the event that you need to use the same textbook more than once (for example, to test more than one rank or to test the same rank multiple times), WTS will make every effort to use different items for each test. However, in designing tests, it is important to avoid using the same books year after year. Try to vary the choice of textbooks from year to year in order to avoid overtesting on the same material.New and Old Editions of Textbooks
Our reading lists are updated each year to add new titles and to reflect the most recent editions of existing books. Our policy is to base all items on the editions of the textbooks provided in our reading list. Because our reading lists are published only once a year, they may not reflect changes occurring mid-year, such as books going out of print or publication of new textbook editions. Please check the reading list carefully to make sure you have the current book editions. If a book edition you wish to use is different from the one currently on our reading list, please follow-up your written test order with a telephone call to clarify which edition you wish to use for your test. In the interest of keeping the reading list current, WTS will attempt to honor requests to use a more recent edition of a textbook, provided we are given ample notice to order the new edition and write test items. Therefore, all requests to use more recent textbook editions should be made at least three months prior to the test date. If you are requesting an older version of a textbook, WTS often will allow agencies to select textbooks that are one edition out-of-date. For all such instances, agencies must call and speak with a WTS representative to see if test banks for older editions are available.
Additions to the Reading List
Test users are encouraged to recommend new books for possible inclusion in the reading lists for next year. It is the policy of WTS to add new books to the reading lists each year; therefore, your help in making recommendations is important. If you need to add a new book sooner, it may be possible, provided ample notice is given to WTS prior to the test date. Please contact WTS with all such requests.View the Police Promotional Reading List.
